A Winter Wedding Frock Coat
This client is an accomplished watercolour artist based in West Cork and she needed a garment to complete her outfit as mother-of-the-groom. The wedding was in January and my client required a frock coat to layer over her dress to provide warmth from winter weather as the wedding party travelled from hotel to ceremony to reception and later back to hotel. In addition to complimenting the dress in colour palette and silhouette, it also need to be comfortably structured to keep on indoors if she should chose and be appropriately dressy.
We chose a dark greenish grey Italian wool fabric with a mechanical stretch, meaning there was stretch in the weave itself, giving that ease of wear. The slight V at the neckline, mirrored that of the dress and the tapered hemline also followed that of the dress. An inverted box pleat at the back gave a neat fit across the shoulder and back whilst enabling movement. Three quarter length sleeves showed off her statement bangles and vintage buttons provided a functional embellishment.
The dress coat provided my client with a polished look and a warm layer for a winter wedding, reflecting her personal style so she both felt like herself and dressed up for this significant moment amongst her family. Going forward with cost per wear in mind, it is something she can throw on throughout the seasons and will be easy to pair with much of her existing wardrobe.
